Several weeks ago, CTbites reviewed the former Eleven 14 restaurant in the J House Hotel. Abruptly the restaurant closed and its future was uncertain. CTbites can now provide the answer…Chef / Owner Anthony Goncalves and his partners at the J House decided to revamp the menu and staff to reflect a more casual, relaxed atmosphere with a focus on great Italian influenced cuisine. The good news, or should I say great news, is that Goncalves’ love of food and hospitality is already evident in the newly re-opened and re-named HOME restaurant.
Goncalves has years of restaurant experience, first overhauling Trotters in White Plains before moving to, and eventually becoming a partner in, both 42 The Restaurant and Bellota at 42. Regarded as one of the premier restaurants in Westchester, the menu at 42 is reminiscent of Goncalves’ childhood summers in the Iberia peninsula and the influence of his Portuguese parents and grandparents.
After a mere two weeks, HOME is already serving outstanding cuisine and he gave his assurance that “this is only the beginning.” To assist in the rejuvenation, Goncalves brought many of his staff from 42. Chef Scott Weiss, who was the Chef de Cuisine at Scarsdale’s Fig and Olive and subsequently the kitchens at 42, continues his 13+ year relationship with Goncalves at HOME. The kitchen’s Chef de Cuisine is Chef Ishmael Fuentes, who spent the last ten years with Goncalves, and overseeing the pastries and desserts is “Top Chef - Just Desserts” contestant Pastry Chef Melissa Camacho.
